I was looking at this post on actors who know martial arts and of course, the name of the late LIU Jia-Liang appeared. I shall leave galvatron to put in details of the achievements of Liu Jia-liang; in this post I shall just concentrate on his death and funeral. I found some photos from the internet which I shall attach, but more than anything else, I found certain details in this link which I found to be informative. An extract of this link said:- 九大门派舞狮送行 按照习俗,仪式上有刘家3只孝狮迎九大门派代表的9只素狮,共12只狮到灵堂向刘家良敬礼,这是武术界对刘家良最崇高的敬礼,是当地半世纪以来最大的阵仗。 九大门派是什么?按照地区分,应该是南拳的九大门派。据现场同行向记者透露,前去的门派有洪拳、白眉派、白鹤拳、咏春、罗山拳、风火堂等等。 Nine Main Schools Send off with LionsAccording to local custom, the funeral service had three funereal lions from the Liu school, and nine funereal lions from the nine main schools, totaling twelve lions in front of the funereal altar paying their respects; this being the highest honour bestowed by the martial world on Liu Jia-Liang. It was the highest veneration in this locality in this half century. Which are the nine main schools? Much depends on the place; in this case it should be the nine main schools of the Southern Style. According to the reporters at the site, present were Hong School, White Brow School, White Crane School, Wing Chun, Luo Shan School, Wind Fire school, etc. The three lions from the Liu School in front of the funereal altar. Note that these are funereal lions, not usually used for other purposes. They are white in colour. According to the same article, the words on the plaque 一代崇师 were written by Andy Lau. The three lions from the Liu School sending off Liu Jia-Liang. The three lions from the Liu School leading the hearse carrying the casket of Liu Jia-Liang. The lions from the Nine Main Schools at Liu's funeral. The disciples of Liu thanking the lions from the Nine Main Schools. Adam Cheng can be seen quite clearly in this picture, with his very straight posture.

I believe the lady in the middle of this picture is the wife of Liu Jia-Liang, surrounded by some of Liu's disciples. These two photos show the wife (?) of Liu holding Liu's memorial tablet, while Liu's photo was held by a girl, presumably his daughter (?). Adam Cheng can be seen in the first picture, in the background.

BIOGRAPHY
One of the Lau Brothers.
Literally born into the world of martial arts and movies, Liu Chia-liang’s father studied under Lam Sai-wing, a student of the famous Wong Fei-hong. Liu himself was mentor to the late Alexander Fu Sheng, Cheng Shao-chiu, Hsiao Ho, among others. Liu began practicing martial arts at seven, and joined the film industry as a martial arts stuntman while a teenager, to become action director on martial arts movies of the 50’s and 60s. During the 1970’s Liu was one of Hong Kong’s most dominant, innovative and influential martial arts directors.
In the early 1960’s, Liu and action director Tang Chia joined Shaw Brothers, providing fight choreography for most of Chang Cheh’s ground-breaking movies including One-Armed Swordsman.
In the early 1970’s Liu and Chang began to cooperate on film projects based on Shaolin Temple legendary heroes. Chang directed Men From the Monastery and Five Shaolin Masters, while Liu was the action choreographer in both films. Liu took the director’s chair alone in 1975 with The Spiritual Boxer. One of Liu’s final films for Shaw Brothers was The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter, inspired by the tragic death of its star Alexander Fu Sheng during the production. Liu also worked with Jet Li on Martial Arts Of Shaolin.
In 1994, Liu worked with Jackie Chan on Chan’s Drunken Master II. The film was a tremendous success and reintroduced Liu to the world.
Having been out of the spotlight, Liu made a comeback as director for the first Shaw Brothers production in many years, Drunken Monkey, to be released later in 2003.
