This adaptation is very impressive. They also have memorable theme songs. Too bad that the last few series of this adaptation is way differ from the original story. I watched it again last year, so I'm pretty sure there's a lot of changes in this adaptation toward the ending.

Not only not retarded, but in this adaptation DY was a man who had a strong value and life principles. Also...it has the best Murong Fu and Hui Juk ever Bryan Leung was good as Xiao Hong, but he's too short :S :S

siuyiu : I agree with Hu Jun portrayal who looked confused rather than melancolic hahaha. Just need to stretch Bryan Leung to become taller and he became the perfect XF

Btw, last year I had a chance to watch DGSD 83 and 2006. And I noticed that somehow, old tv series are quite subtle in sexual scene. For example for the scene with Madama Ma when he was with Duan Zheng Zhun, or Madame Ma when she tried to seduce XF. Their clothes were all still intact But modern series tend to exploit too much that sometimes it looks cheap and too much. I remembered I watched that part of 2006 series with my friend, and she said that she never realized that DGSD had so much vulgar sexual scene, and that she watched the old series when she's a child, and she's kinda confused that how could her parents let her watched it.

haha, there was also tighter censorship on things like violence and sex and profanity the world over back in the 1980s. that started getting challenged in movies and on tv in the west, and as mainland became more exposed to western things, there seems to have been a whole revolution in mindset and such--people just more open.
i do agree that too much explicit anything, whether sex or violence or what have you, is vulgar, but those are the times we live in!
and if you think the seduction scenes in DGSD were tough to make, think of how much harder doing XLN's rape scene was!

XLN's rape, if I'm not mistaken...are all not pretty vulgar described. Only YZP blindfolded her eyes, and lied her down! And people could guess by themselves. For ROCH 2003, they added scene when YZP kissed her forehead, and kissed her lips In ATV Dynasty, actually there's some sexual scenes between YZ and LSN. but again, all done with subtle classy ways. Okay....call me dinosaurs. But I like those good old days with tighter censorship!

I remember ppl questioning bryan leung is short but still portray his role really good and looked very tough when the series first came out. I thought this version was good. Like the cast.
