thanks for the history lesson, yenchin ! i always just assumed that the HK actors who starred in taiwanese productions just wanted to find new audiences and spread their fame. there was always a saying in HK back in the 80s that if a HK singer couldn't get famous quick in HK, they would find their luck change for the better if they went to taiwan and got famous there. I think this is correct in some aspects because I also heard of something similar. There are quite a few HK entertainment stars who are grateful of the Taiwanese market because their careers rocketed in TW. Aaron Kwok is a good example (too bad the actress didn't gain similar success as Kwok, this ad was actually trying to promote HER.) Is this actress a popular idol in Taiwan during the time this video was made ? What her English name ? I only know Aaron Kwok have yet get a main lead role in TVB drama before this video,he only get secondary role in TVB and he a dancer. He name become popular when he sing the song Never forgetting Love ,this song even have a Japanese version , Malaysian secondary school girl in early 1990an even non Chinese like Malay and Indian like to collect his photo and CD along with his buddy Leon Lai.

yenchin Is Taiwan now stop produce Wuxia drama ? When do it stop produce Wuxia? Yes, nowadays Taiwanese wuxia and historicals have mostly come to a halt besides some low budget productions with lower quality. The last biggest production is "Dragon Dance" I think. There was also a collaboration, Prince of Lan Ling around that time. A few years ago there was an article mentioning that no one wanted to even preserve the used period costumes, and the people who knew how to make them are mostly working for China. I'd say Taiwan stopped producing Wuxia when stations began to stop taking risks as well as cost down everything, probably in the late 00's. Nowadays the local productions are usually modern dramas or near past historicals. At least we still have puppet shows...

The actress's name is 倪雪. It was also her debut, and she only received modest fame. For a comparison, after Kwok's first album came out later, her name was still not well known besides "that girl in the motorcycle ad".

Since I've been reading alot of Taiwanese wuxia drama articles lately, here's the brief story: There was this wuxia craze era in the 80s in Taiwan and studios began to hire teams and actors from Hong Kong to film wuxia series. "Jagged Yang Warriors" is the first of these so-called "Taiwanese Hong Kong Dramas". Shek Sau also had a couple series (It was hard for me at that time to grasp him being the good guy after watching TLBB82) Oh and yes, the mad eunuch is Chan Wai Lau (陳慧樓). In the credits his character's name is 梁芳. Thank you very much. I was almost sure that it was Chan Wai Lau, but I still had a doubt because I didn't even know that he had played in series. Do you know any other series in which he played ?
I would say that it's also him in these three pictures, but I'm not sure. I found it in one of the sereis I recently got, but I don't remember which one because I have tested too many discs in a short while !
Can you confirm if it's him, please ?

His list on wiki is also quite long. The young character behind him seems familiar, do you know who it is, or have a summary on this series?

reinafu yenchin the youngster behind chan wai lau looks like max mok siu chung. i'm not saying it is, but that's who he reminds me of. yenchin that's too bad about the cessation of taiwanese wuxia productions. it's seems that more and more so, art has become entertainment and only valued as much--and therefore, only profits matter. alas that science seems to be heading the same way (already has in the USA).

Yes, it's Max Mok. Maybe it's the series Legend of the wings, or Last heroes, that I recently got. Sorry, but I really don't remember, and to be sure, I should revisit all the discs I already tested, but at this moment, I have others ones to test...

I'm glad to know that Chan Wai Lau also played in series. I appreciate him and his humoristic way of fighting. I'll have to take a look to his wiki page, then... Thanks for having told me about it.

I just took a look to one of my posts on another forum and I foudn the title of the series with Chan Wai Lau and Max Mok , and also Ku Kuan Chung : it's called Hong Xiao Lake, it it talks to someone...
By the way, I can't find his wikipedia page in English (nor in Chinese !). Do you have a link, please ?
I took a look on hkcinemagic, which usually lists both series and movies, but none series is mentioned in his filmography on this site...
I just think that I'm a little bit stupid...Of course, by looking with the Chinese name, I found the wiki page !!!
There is something strange : he is mentioned as being born on 1929, but hkcinemagic says he was born in 1947...

HKCMD lists 1929. His pre-1947 career seems to be documented quite well on the Mandarin Wiki, so it seems 1929 is the correct date. Thanks for the heads up. Mok's and Chan's wikis don't list the series and I guess I'll just do the internet a favor and update them. Funny fact behind this series: The Mandarin title for this series is Au Xiao Jiang Hu 傲嘯江湖, which sounds suspiciously similar to the famous Jin Yong novel Xiao Au Jiang Hu 笑傲江湖. AXJH was broadcasted by CTV Taiwan, three months later, TTV Taiwan began broadcasting XAJH. What made this more bizarre, was that the leading actress of both shows was Leanne Liu/劉雪華, confusing the audiences. According to the articles I've been reading (yes I'll post about them some time in the future), originally, AXJH was titled 霹靂雷霆, which could be roughly translated into "Thunderstrike", however, since the main characters had "傲"(Au) and "嘯"(Xiao) in their names, as well as following the Jin Yong craze, the TV station thought it was a good idea to change the title to 嘯傲江湖 (Xiao Ao Jiang Hu), but to avoid such a blatant title rip-off, they switched the first two characters and now we had Au Xiao Jiang Hu. This still resulted in some level of confusion: When XAJH was being filmed, some bystanders "corrected" the crew that the title was AXJH, and when AXJH was having a screening, they ordered some food and it was sent to the wrong TV station.

yenchin what a comedy of errors! greedy is what greedy does (to paraphrase). LOL and in the credits above it seems like originally they used 笑 instead of 嘯 A character named 令狐笑....hmm I guess it's a coincidence </sarcasm>
