Has anyone read this novel before?
Currently I'm watching the series, but it has no text - I have difficulties to understand if there's no Chinese text sub as my listening skill is not good. Also the pace is pretty fast.
My question is : who is the real protagonist in this story?

Admin i've moved the thread to the tv series section to minimize confusion. and modified the title to match the series name. to answer your question: zuo donglai is the protagonist. it's one of very few stories where the protagonist is also the antagonist/anti-hero, given that sima chaoqun is more the hero type. @galvatron this is the tv series name. the original GL story is called Heroes Shed No Tears/Yingxiong Wu Lei (英雄無淚), and that's the name we usually discuss the story under.

Thanks siuyiu Ah I get it. Yeah...Zuo donglai doesn't act like a real hero. He's a typical of GL's men. He threw away naked woman out of his bed. He really asked his man to throw her out of the door. LOL. @galvatron : there's a series with the title 泪痕剑 from 2005 with Vincent Zhao Enjun and Ada Choi.

I have finished watching this series. Vincent Jiao 焦恩俊 did really a good job as Zhuo Donglai. I don't know how loyal it is to the novel siuyiuThe story in the series : a feud between Great Escort Company vs Fierce Lion Organization. The leader of Great Escort Company was Sima Chaojun. Zhuo Donglai waas his right hand, although actually it's Zhuo Donglai was the real man behind all of the success. Zhuo Donglai sent his well-groomed and trained girlfriend (Die Wu) to be a mole at Fierce Lion Organization led by Zhu Meng. Meanwhile there's a new hero coming out in wulin, his name is Xiao Gao (Gao Jianfei) - he owned this tear mark sword aka 泪痕剑, a very powerful sword which always wants to get a victim every time it comes out from its scabbard. Gao Jianfei was raised in the mountain with his martial sister which died when they were curious to see the sword. Apparently this martial art sister was a twin sister of Die Wu. Later on, it's revealed that Gao Jianfei was probably a son of famous assassin which use a box as his lethal weapon, while Sima Chaojun's wife who felt neglected by Sima, tried to frame Zhuo Donglai. Zhuo Donglai was said to love Sima so much that he did anything to protect his image and made Sima the most perfect hero. Sima's wife then got killed by Zhuo Donglai, and Sima then died because he felt angry to Zhuo Donglai, but at the same time he couldn't take revenge on him. Then there's a duel between the man which use a box as his lethal weapon. Zhuo Donglai died by the tear mark sword. But before he died, he said : "Why...there's no blood covering this sword. could it be...." And the man which use a box as his lethal weapon said: "Could it be that you're my brother?" Then ...it finished. That's it. So I finished watching it...but I still don't get the story all about.

Zhuo Donglai was really angry to Die Wu who had a baby with Zhu Meng. He told her that he could bear she slept with anyone, but can't tolerate to see she had a baby with another man. He manipulated and used Die Wu to kill Zhu Meng and wipe off Fierce Lion Organization. There's a scene when he rode a horse and dragged Die Wu on a galloping horse before he finally stopped and took her riding his horse.

From the cover of the series, I think that I have it under the title The tearful sword. Thanks for your synopsis, Admin : it helps me to understand better, the 1979 TVB series with Ha Yu and another TVB series which title escapes to me at this moment that I also watched. The Shaws' movie with Derek Yee also helped me to understand the plot. Die Wu wasn't a fighting girl in any of the series I watched and I don't remember if Angie Chiu was a fighting girl in the Shaws' movie. I don't remember either the story of Die Wu's twin sister in the series, but as there weren't any English subtitles, maybe it has been said and I didn't understood it.
I mst find a while to watch The tearful sword, now !!

I don't know how loyal it is to the novel siuyiu i only watched bits and pieces of the series, so i don't know how faithful it is, overall. it's also been some years since i've read the book, so i can't comment, based on your summary, about faithfulness to source. the thing i remember most is that zhuo donglai is the anti-hero protagonist. and that he dies in the end. the idea of the villainous character being the protagonist is the most memorable bit of the story.

reinafu :I have to say that this series pace is pretty fast, and sometimes I have to work on something while I watched the series, therefore I might miss a lot of details. But I have to say the series is pretty well done, the fighting scene was pretty good, the actors did their good job too. I have to rewatch the series or read the novel to get a better understanding of the whole story. Zhuo Donglai is really impressive in this series. siuyiu : Zhuo Donglai definitely not a typical of hero or gentleman - especially compared to Sima Chaojun.

when i watched this drama adaptation, why i feel that the main protagonist one is Xiao Gao (gao jianfei), not zhuo donglai? or maybe the producer intentionally make him the main protagonist instead of zhuo, diverge from novel.

Typical of GL's novel. The real protagonist might be just a minor role. Yeah, I also think that Gao Jianfei is the real protagonist. Zhuo Donglai, he's a cool b*stard! I like him though!
