I've read The Legend of the Eccentric Heroes of the Female Emperor (女帝奇英傳) . It's really good. The story setting was during the Wu Zetian rule. LYS created a lot of females with strong characters here. Actually I read it in Indonesian language more than ten years ago. It was an old lousy books that I rented from the local store. I regret that I didn't immediately buy the book, cause the book looked ugly though. But I really liked the story so I came back to the store and wanted to buy the book, but unfortunately the store owner sold it to other people Later in 2010 I found this story online in Chinese wuxia.net.cn/book/nvdiqiyingzhuan/1.html But reading LYS's book in Chinese is not that easy though :S :S

Jiejie, would you be able to list the novels by Chronology as well? I am familiar with only about 7 of them, and the mount heaven Saga from start to finish is very long indeed.

15 The Three Peerless Techniques of the Martial World (武林三絕) I'm glad you posted this because 絕 always gives me trouble when translating. I don't know why I never thought of it as "peerless", but that makes a lot of sense. So in that case it's like 無雙 or 獨一無二, right?

yenchin and other members who've read LYS's works, which books would you say are the best and most representative ones of the entire oeuvre? and which one would you say is a good first-ever story for someone who's never read LYS?

The Wanderer Chronicles, White-Haired Demoness, The Legend of the Tang Dynasty Travelling Hero, Seven Swords Leave Mt Heaven, The Wild Hero, The Proud One, The Demoness, and The Jade Bow Connection in the Clouds are quite representative with the first two good for starters. The common theme in these works are that there are strong, powerful women, scholar-warriors, and characters who are wild and crazy and interesting. The Legend of the Tang Dynasty Travelling Hero gets an honorable mention because it is fast paced full of raw power, which is quite different from Liang's stle.

yenchin can you please explain the meaning of the title for 雲海玉弓緣? The title translates to "Connection of the Jade Bow and Sea of Clouds", however it seems that LYS has implied a lot in the title. Mt. Heaven, being a mountain, has a sea of clouds, and the Jade Bow is a key weapon in the novel, made by Qiao Bei Ming (喬北溟) and used by Li Sheng Nan (厲勝男 ) to fulfill Qiao's wishes to challenge the Mt. Heaven School. The title also describes the relationship between the four main characters in the novel. 雲 (Cloud): The character Li Chin Mei (李沁梅), had a strong crush on Jin Shi Yi (金世遺). However, Jin has never been reciprocal on her feelings. 海 (Sea): Jin Shi Yi was born with leprosy and was brought up on an sea island by a martial arts master. In the novel, Chapter 4: 玉 (Jade): While not clearly mentioned as the above, Jade is Gu Zhi Hua (谷之華). She is beautiful, she is gentle, she is the daughter of a villain (jades usually have flaws), she loves Jin but Jin still had feelings with Li Sheng Nan. Despite all these shortcomings, she endures and stays strong, just like a jade. 弓(Bow): Li Sheng Nan is like a bow, powerful and clear on target. She clearly knows what she wants, and puts her utmost strength on accomplishing them.

thank you, yenchin! because the ATV adaptation is available on YT, i recently skimmed it, so i have an idea of the overall story arc. but i didn't watch it closely enough to understand the title. i suspect that people who haven't read the books might not fully appreciate the depth of the title! wow, so besides the aesthetic of the words of the title, it basically describes the love quadrangle between the 4 lead characters! THAT is something that can never be properly translated into english! much appreciate the explanation!
