I said once in this forum that I was more interested in Adam Cheng's songs than in Roman Tam's songs.
Since then, I listened to more Roman's songs, I bought some cds of his, I just watched his 1996 concert on youtube and I found a clip in which he sings with Lydia Shum (I didn't know that this latter had a so beautiful voice and sang so well too !) and I revised my opinion.
That's true that a while ago, I couldn't bear to hear him in some of this songs (not all) but now, I'm used to it and I must admit that he was also a really good singer. At the end of the 1996 show, he sings a song in Mandarin about love (from what I recognized in the characters) and it's a so moving song. He also sang two other Mandarin songs and he cried, which was also so moving.
He is now among my favorite Chinese singers !
Here is the link to his 1996 concert :
He sings some series theme in it. As i was accupied to do some things while listening, I surely have missed some dances and songs, and I'll have to revisit this concert for sure !

reinafu i'm glad you've come to appreciate his singing! it's not to everyone's taste because a lot of people find his voice too effeminate. but there's no contest if you talk about pure technique. he trained in opera (either peking or canto, i forget), so there's hardly any song that can really stump him. his voice deepened as he got older, so you'll probably prefer his later works--he had an album where he re-interpreted some of his most well-known songs; i'll see if they are available on YT and link. he and lydia shum formed a singing duet very early on in their career, and they'd been very good friends since then.

I wonder if he was a happy man, because he was so touched by some songs (or anything else, I don't know) that he often cried...
Actually, it's not because his voice was effminate that I disliked some of his songs, but because of the way some words were pronounced, but I realized that it was the Cantonese pronunciation and I'm now used to it. And what is an effeminate voice for some people ? We had here a giant star called Luis Mariano who could sing opera as well as popular songs and whose voice's " length " went from very deep to very high and he had numerous fans even if he sang with a high voice that looked like a woman's voice...

明日天涯 tomorrow's horizon (live) 不了情 unfinished love (live) 幾許風雨 many storms and an amazing live version 前程錦繡 bright future I LOVE this song (Tomorow's horizons) and if I'm not mistaken, it's the song he sings at the end of the clip I posted, with only a piano and his voice.
The more I listen to it, the more it seems to me that I already heard it sung by someone else, maybe a woman, but I'm not sure.
Could it be possible to get the Chinese characters and the pinyin transcription for this song, please ?
Thank you very much for the clips. I already knew the songs Unfinished love (it seems that the meaning is not the same as how it has been translated for the movie Love without end. For me, an unfinished love isn't the same as a love without end, but maybe it's my mathematical mind that makes me think this way... ), and for Beneath the Lion Rock, sung by Adam Cheng.
And I prefer the live version with only the violin of the song Many storms.
I think that I must track down the Mandarin songs cd !!

I forgot to mention that I also know the song bright future, sung by Adam Cheng.
Thank you very much for these lyrics, Admin. Are these the ones for this particular song : 明日天涯 tomorrow's horizon ?
If so, I don't recognize any words that I recognized when listening to the song. At a moment, he sings (sorry, I can't put the accents) :
Ai Ren Bu Yao Yuan Wo Ai Ren Bu Yao Hen Wo
but I don't see this in your pinyin transcription and this song doesn't seem as long as the one you gave me the lyrics.
Sorry, I don't want to seem ungrateful, I'm very happy with the lyrics, but I'd like to know for which songs they are (hence, I'll be able to sing it with the right lyrics ! ) and if they aren't for the song I mentioned, could you (or someone else in the forum) give me also the lyrics and pinyin for this particular song, please ?
Thanks a lot in advance !

i think there may be another song of the same name. these are the lyrics for the song i linked, which roman tam did a version of. reinafu , i believe the original singer was indeed a woman, though there have been many singers who've done their version. the pinyin is too big an ask of me--maybe someone else can provide that. as for unfinished love, it's the best i could come up with in a hurry. the title shouldn't be "love without end" because that connotes something positive, something eternal. the song itself has a melancholy, so i felt "unfinished" a better interpretation of the title. here are those lyrics:

i don't know if he was happy. he was definitely passionate about his art. i'm glad you're not bothered by his voice--many are, thinking that a guy's voice should be deeper, stronger, etc. as for the pronunciation, yes, canto is harsher on the ears than mandarin.

reinafuYes, that is the song 明日天涯 tomorrow's horizon, but apparently there are another song with the same title. I'm sorry, since my VPN is often on and off, therefore I didn't watch the video.
