I shudder to think how they will ruin LYS... The Tsui Hark-produced TV series is as far as I can allow adaptations to go.
The Seven Swords (movie) already earned the rating of 3.3/10 on Douban...

agree kyc -- they have never managed to make a proper adaptation of PZXYL either--the story's not perfect, but the adaptations basically kept the names and nothing else!

agree kyc -- they have never managed to make a proper adaptation of PZXYL either--the story's not perfect, but the adaptations basically kept the names and nothing else! siuyiu, I thought the Damian Lau and Michelle Yim adaptation was LYS's favorite TV series? Haven't watched it yet so don't know how faithful it is to the book. As for the subsequent Mainland Chinese versions, I haven't watched them either. I haven't even read the novel! atumiwa, I'd rather have low expectations of wuxia adaptations... it's much better to be pleasantly surprised than be sorely disappointed. Also, I'm more of a movies guy. So concerning Wudang Yijian, based on a late LYS novel... it might be good, but I'll only keep my fingers crossed!

Update 2022: Are there any LYS adaptations coming up? Are there any old LYS adaptations worth watching?

A warning about The Bride with White Hair 2012, starring Nicky Wu. It is not based on LYS's novel. "Except for some characters' names, the plot is almost completely unrelated to the novel." (Wikipedia)
The ending is typical of such adaptations. Lian Nichang and Zhuo Yihang has a showdown. Zhuo Yihang's hair turns white and he dies for Lian. Yue Mingke ends up with Tie Shanhu; the latter does not die.
LYS died in 2009 and this "adaptation" was made in 2012. Expect more of such wuxia "adaptations" in the future.

Update 2022: Are there any LYS adaptations coming up? Are there any old LYS adaptations worth watching? The Chronicles of the Shadow Swordsman is missing in action, no latest news. 3 of the last 4 LYS' adaptation are Baifa Monu Zhuan and all of them are film. 白发魔女传 (2020), 白发魔女外传 (2020), and 白发魔女传之血凤凰 (2021) the trilogy films of Qijian Xia Tianshan (2019-2020) are not worth watching. First sword of wudang is good earlier part, but 2nd half-part is getting worse, but still better than all i mentioned above. --and for the old adaptations, some i would recommend: The Patriotic Knights, or Paladins in Troubled Times or Tracking Knights Phantom The patriotic knights = have some similarity story or style like sword stained with royal blood Paladins in troubled times = it's more about politic, Tang dynasty An Lushan rebellion era, i like it as history information because Jin Yong doesnt use this period Tracking Knights Phantom = i havent watched this, but my friend like it.

Translations of titles: The patriotic knights --> 俠骨丹心;Paladins in troubled times --> 大唐遊俠傳;Tracking Knights Phantom (what a terrible name) --> 新萍踪俠影。 Douban ratings: 白发魔女传之明月天国 (2014) - 3.8 / 10 白发魔女传 (2020) - 3.7 / 10 (Edit: It's on YouTube) 白发魔女外传 (2020) - 4.3 / 10 (Edit: It's on YouTube) 白发魔女传之血凤凰 (2021) - not screened yet? 七剑下天山之修罗眼 (2019) - 3.2 / 10 (Edit: It's on YouTube) 七剑下天山之封神骨 (2019) - too few ratings for score (Edit: It's on YouTube) 七剑下天山之七情花 (2020) - too few ratings for score (Edit: It's on YouTube) 七剑下天山之风云决 (2022) - not screened yet The First Sword of Wudang (2021) - 4.7 / 10 The Patriotic Knights 俠骨丹心 (2005) - 7.3 /10 Paladins in Troubled Times 大唐遊俠傳 (2007) - 6.8 / 10 Tracking Knights Phantom (The Wanderer's Chronicles) 新萍踪俠影 (2011) - 5.7 /10 Compared with a few older LYS TV series: Chronicles of the Shadow Swordsman (The Wanderer's Chronicles) (1985) (Damien Lau, Michelle Yim) - 8.4 /10 Heroic Legend (The Wanderer's Chronicles) (2007) (Huang Haibing, Fan Bingbing) - 7.4 / 10 Lofty Waters Verdant Bow (TVB, 2002) 雲海玉弓緣 - 7.4 / 10 The Bride with White Hair (Nicky Wu) (2012) - 6.0 / 10 The Romance of the White Hair Maiden (Ada Choi) (TVB, 1995)- 7.3 / 10 Legend of the White Hair Brides (1996) 塞外奇俠 - 8.2 / 10 Seven Swordsmen (Ada Choi, Vincent Zhao) - 7.4 / 10 Douban scores are representative of Mainland Chinese viewers but not necessarily those of Greater China. The general trend is, the newer, the more hated... The 2011 Tracking Knights Phantom will forever be blighted by the failed marriage of the leads. I think if I have the time I'll watch the three TV series you recommend. --- Edit: The newer Qijian and Baifa trilogy/tetralogy are spin-offs with plot unrelated to the original novels. I realized that the Qijian tetralogy is made by Tencent and Baifa trilogy is made by Youku. Where's the face palm emoticon? What has Liang Yusheng done to deserve this?? The first scene I saw was Yi Lanzhu walking with white hair and meeting Zhang Huazhao who's trying to flirt with her, meeting her for the first time. Isn't Zhang Huazhao the guy in the novel who caused her hair to turn white in the first place? Where's the face palm emoticon??? 🤦

七剑下天山之风云决 = so this is the fourth one? Quadlogy Qijian Xia Tianshan? somehow they fail but still keep trying to release the sequel?. they have too much money to throw away? It's the Netflix model. Once something is successful, everyone thinks he or she can try the same. They already set aside money for a trilogy or tetralogy. Since they're using new and not famous actors/actresses, the budget is low. But low budget HD can still look very good. Western audience likes wuxia. They don't care if the adaptation is faithful, they just want to see pretty girls, handsome guys, nice hanfu etc. Response in China is poor but they can recoup money overseas. SE Asia for example is a big enough market.
