Oh dear...You have better address the great wuxia novelist Jin Yong as Jin Yong or JY or JY laoshi is fine too. But calling him as Jin Laoshi might bring confusion to people who only read the thread title. It should be noted that Jin Yong's real name is Cha Liang Yong, and Jin Yong is only his pen name. His surname is not Jin.

But I was thinking very long ago that just plainly calling his pen name as JY would be not very respectful as he is an elder master.
JY laoshi is kind of long..... So I thought I would only call him Jin teacher "laoshi" since most people I talked to don't know his actual name.
I wonder how come he like Zhang Wu Ji more as you said from what you know?

But if you talk to people who are familiar with his name or his work, they know JY or Jin Yong better than Jin Laoshi. I wonder how come he like Zhang Wu Ji more as you said from what you know? --> from an old interview. I will try to find out the interview article. When JY wrote HSDS, his son died because of suicide, and he related a lot with Xie Sun whose son also died. Therefore somehow HSDS has a deep emotional attached with JY compared to his other novels.

Didn't Jin Yong once mention he liked Wei XiaoBoa from the story "Duke of Deer Mountain"?
Or was it that he was most satisfied with that character because of the lack of responsibility he had on his shoulders? I can't remember.

Personally, I think Jin Yong does not represent any of his characters, but himself. He did say that when he wrote those main characters, his emotions were with them.

I must make a correction. Actually JY's son committed suicide when JY was still editing the second edition. JY writes in the afterword that he didn't understand how it feels when a family member dies when he first wrote HSDS.
It's true that JY wrote that if forced to choose, his favorite works would be HSDS, ROCH, The Smiling Proud Wanderer and The Young Flying Fox, because they contain "stronger feelings" than the rest. In the third edition, I think he added DGSD.
