I remember after ZLC was blinded he told YBQ that "If you have the package, come and exchange one or four moves(or rounds?) with me" and then YBQ said something about "Dao Jian Wu Yen" in his long reply. Funny they are saying that to each other cause one doesn't have a "package" and the other is blind(With ZLC not knowing YBQ's secret of course). This was in the Jackie Lui 1996 version. Did they say that in the novel?(Not sure if the translation is "package".It could mean bravery or capability)

「刀劍無眼」
"Blades and swords have no eyes."
Sort of like a warning that even in a friendly spar people will get hurt. Of course sometimes this can be used in a mocking or sincere tone.

In the original novel, YBQ only said it before the fight. After he won and people began to flatter/support YBQ, someone from the crowd mentioned it again to kind of sway with the flow.
An additional interesting point, Jin Yong didn't use "刀劍無眼", but actually wrote a more vernacular phrase "刀劍不生眼睛" (Dao jian bu sheng yen jing, "Blades and swords don't grow eyes")

Did ZLC say it to YBQ? “You zhong” 有種 Meaning,”have balls” (in a not too vulgar way) It’s in the novel similar to the TVB series. ZLC, still not aware/denying that he got blinded, yells at YBQ “If you have balls come fight another 300 rounds.” |
