First of all, VERY SORRY for asking this question which has been asked to death. It's just that wherever I search, present day geography websites unrelated to HSDS always say that Emei is a Buddhist mountain. So I'm confused as to which depiction of Mijue is correct. Is she supposed to be Buddhist or Taoist looking?
Edited:Found something else
According to this, Emei was originally Taoist. But still want to know, are they Taoist in HSDS?

Buddhist. They call Abbess Miejue 滅覺老尼 in the novel which means she is a Buddhist nun, deriving from the Pali term bhikkhunī.

buddhist, there are some clues about it the disciples are mix of baldy nuns and lay disciples
but in spw, it is taoist, then in fox, back to buddhist.

I had always been under the impression that E'mei sect in HSDS was a Taoist sect.
I remember one of the E'mei girls - Ji XiaoFu (?) - was betrothed to one of the Wudang boys - was he No. 6? He had his bones severely injured/crushed by the Tibetan Shaolin's "Golden Strong Fingers."
I thought Buddhist do not marry, and because that E'mei girl could marry, that ended up with me assuming E'mei Sect was Taoist in HSDS.
However, I do know that in real life, Mount E'mei is deemed one of the sacred Buddhist sites.

Actually it's possible to marry if you are a lay disciple (俗家弟子). That's what I think Ji Xiaofu is.
Another possibility is that JY himself was confused and actually wrote they were a Taoist sect in the serialized version, then changed it in edition 2. That would account for the confusion in The Smiling Proud Wanderer, when they suddenly became Taoist again.

kyc wasn't jxf supposed to succeed miejue as sect leader? if so, it's odd to choose a lay disciple for the position.

I don't think it's written in the Emei sect rules that its leader must be a Buddhist nun. But in The Young Flying Fox there seems to be such a rule.
Like I said, there's a likelihood JY rewrote the sect from Taoist to Buddhist. But I remember in the serialized version, at the very end Zhou Zhiruo did take the tonsure (meaning she cannot harass Zhang Wuji anymore). It's all quite confusing.

ZZR is a lay disciple herself and become leader of emei, and after become a leader, she announces to the world that she marries Song Qingshu (although it is fake).
and yes i believe in the novel, there is no rule that the lay disciple cannot become leader, only male disciple cannot. i will check again later the third edition to make sure.
btw, what is the chinese word of "Nun" in the novel for some low ranking emei disciple? (other than miejue which called shitai for her high status)

This change in religion and gender is really weird. Has Song Qingshu been recruiting before death?

This change in religion and gender is really weird. Has Song Qingshu been recruiting before death? Wait till you see the Shaw Brothers "sequel" to HSDS starring Derek Yee as ZWJ. Alex Man plays Song Qingshu who kills ZZR and then learns a double sword kung fu which makes him left side man, right side woman or vice versa. Can't remember.

I wonder what/how Jin Yong reacted to that version of his HSDS.

The same for those who mutilate LYS novels.😱 What happened to Zhao Min in that adaptation, by the way? 😅

Ah,here it is:
