yep, going for the less obvious topic (though if anyone starts a "fave wuxia tv themesongs" thread, i most certainly will respond  ). these are songs that i think are just as memorable as the ones that everyone knows/loves/at-least-recognizes-when-the-first-few-bars-are-played. now this is an interesting one. this is the original opening theme to RTV's HHXJL, but somehow, everyone forgets this version. instead, they remember the subtheme, of the same melody but slightly different lyrics, sung by leslie cheung. so, i'm going to post the lyrics below and also the ones for the leslie version for comparison. song by yu lun, lyrics by lo kwok tsim, sung by lee lung kei.

here are two oddities. it was very popular in HK to put new canto lyrics to popular english, japanese, and mandarin tunes. here, we have examples of wuxia tunes reappropriated. can you remember the original?
(1) 孤雁 - 關菊英

You're welcome. Yes, as the title of the song is "Xia Ke" it is likely GL's expression of what he thinks a Xia Ke would be like  Here's a theme from the underrated "Xia Yi Jian Qing Tian" ("俠義見青天"). Which is basically the Justice Bao series without Justice Bao, focusing solely on the other heroes that were in the series. awesome--thanks! haven't watched the video yet, but i will! just wanted to reply quickly to say i was reading the lyrics, and it's through songs nowadays that you really see how different the chinese dialects are--the rhyme scheme for this song breaks down if you read it in canto. and i'm curious: do any of the canto lyrics i posted work "properly" if read in mandarin?

Here's a theme from the underrated "Xia Yi Jian Qing Tian" ("俠義見青天"). Which is basically the Justice Bao series without Justice Bao, focusing solely on the other heroes that were in the series. As you can see the cast is shining with stars from HK, as this was a joint project between Taiwan and TVB. ha, yes, several familiar faces! and man, were they young back then! what year was this production? alex man may have still been married back then. |

So far they do, probably because usually the lyrics of these type of series are written in poetic literature. However there still seems to be something not right which I can't pinpoint. This series was done during 1994, so he was still married. However there still seems to be something not right which I can't pinpoint. and hence the continuation of "xenophobia" between regions. *rolleyes* wow, i've never heard the song in mandarin--the rhyme scheme holds together, but some of the words sound really different! and all hail master lyricist 盧國沾! pity he's no longer with us. i think only 鄭國江 remains of the greats who gave us the hits from the 70s & 80s. there's an interesting radio interview of these two, along with james wong tsim 黃霑, done by RTHK back in the early 2000s--unfortunately, it's all in canto. |
