Another popular food I cook for Chinese New Year are Arrow Head Crisps. First, buy arrow heads 慈姑 or 茨菇, clean and peel them. Arrow heads peeled and soaked in water to prevent drying.
Thinly slice the arrow heads and deep fry in oil over medium heat
Concentrate and do not mistake the finger for the Arrow Head. Somehow I end up slicing myself on my hand or finger every year. Sigh...

Ouch!
The arrow head crisps is something I've never seen before (usually its sweet potatoes or taro chips, the shrooms/shikate at best are fried like French fries), they look extremely great!

Ouch! The arrow head crisps is something I've never seen before (usually its sweet potatoes or taro chips, the shrooms/shikate at best are fried like French fries), they look extremely great! The arrow head crisps are very nice. I slice them thinner than those sold in the market, which means that they are not only crisp, they almost melt in the mouth. The ones sold in the market are slightly thicker, and thus give more of a crunch. They are also easier to make. This year, these crisps have gone down in price - mainly a reflection of the economy. They used to sell at just under USD4 per tub, but now they are going for just above USD3 per tub. In Singapore, the going price is about USD13 per tub. Massive difference!

Pineapple tarts baking in the ovenI have one complaint about my oven. Who is the stupid designer who put in a yellow light in the oven? When I bake my biscuits, I want them to turn golden. How am I supposed to correctly judge the colour of the biscuits under a yellow light? The light should be white light. Meanwhile the result... A photo from previous year

This is the yield from 3.5 kg of raw arrow heads. Not a lot, really.

I made peanut cookies for Chinese New Year. It is tedious, but I like them. The raw peanuts need to be fried over slow fire (dry roast)After grinding, mixing with flour, sugar and oil, this is the baked result. The yield is not that high - this is what I get from 500g roasted peanutsAdmin, did you try making these for the new Year?
