I found this : www.facebook.com/David-Chiang-117047575027338/and this : johnchiangvncom.tumblr.com/and this : vimeo.com/johnchiangvnfcand this : bbs.johnchiang.cn/and this : cn-new.net/chl/UCJkFh1haV4AffBh-5pPdrOgThe following site has a lot of old taiwanese series. I don't see 9 dragon warriors/lanterns, but maybe you could ask them if they are aware of it or if they have it. They don't show all what they have : I had asked them for The assassins and they told me that they had it, but there was a queue with several other demands from customers and this series is still not listed on their site. They also have a store on ruten site, so, maybe you could ask there too (they speak english in the following link). www.shop.huaijiudvd.com/main.scThere is also this guy who uploaded the series Chin Lung, Fei Lung, Dragon dance and the fourth one which name escapes to me on youtube FTW drama. They are modern series, but maybe he is aware of the old ones too... And I hope that among all the fan clubs of David Chiang I found, one of them will give you an answer...

From Chin Hong: "I didn't know that 'The Nine Dragon Lanterns' was filmed. See how these people milk me? I'm so afraid on acquainting people these days. They can do whatever they want." And while I'm posting this, he posted a short rant on how he's the most exploited Taiwanese wuxia writer, but after these years he has kind of made peace with this fact. Anyways, I was hoping that Chin would be able to at least give some hints on where to find the whole film. Based on the current situation, of course he doesn't know. Paul Chang has passed away. David Chiang's weibo is inactive. Is there anything like an international fan club? Does he even answer fan mail? I seem to see either Ban Tie Xiang or Long Tian Xiang with his manly beard in the video, but neither of them seem reachable. I can't recognize the other actors/actresses (there seem like a couple or three female leads?) My personal wild hypothesis is that the Nine Dragon Lanterns was filmed probably at the same time as the Jagged Yang Warriors, maybe even by the same production team, which explains why David Chiang's blue shirt character looks similar, as well as Chang Chung being able to participate. For some reason no one asked for Chin Hong's consent or probably asked the wrong person (the concept of copyright in Taiwan was messy those days). Since the Era Group (which filmed "Jagged Yang Warriors") is quite a big corporation nowadays, I guess it's a dead end for me to even test this theory. I'll keep in mind to see if anyone salvaged anything from local video rental stores (if a direct video version even existed). When did Paul Chang Chung pass away ? It isn't even mentioned on hkmdb...
Yes, there is Lung Tien Xiang in the clip, but I hadn't wrote it like you...
Maybe I'm a little bit slow, but I don't understand why it's a dead end to ask the Era Group if they are a big group...
Maybe there is a Vietnamese or Cambodian version somewhere too : it looks like these countries had a lot of TVB series with even longer versions than in HK or China, so, maybe they also have some Taiwanese series hidden somewhere...

In the clip, there is a scene in which one woman is sitting, while the other one stands up and wears red clothes. It seems to me that this latter is the same actress as the one who plays Li Wenxiu (the heroine avenging her parents) in White Horse Neighs in West Wind.
Talking about Li Wenxiu, I read somewhere that Yang Pan Pan (or Michelle Yim, I don't remember) also played this role, but I don't remember if it was in a series or in a movie. Does anyone have any clue about this ?

can anyone tell by that clip if this series was done by TTV or CTS taiwan studio ? So far I've got one reply in a Taiwanese forum saying that it didn't seem to been aired on any if the TV stations. I've been reading a lot of articles regarding Wuxia television in Taiwan and so far none of them has mentioned this series. The lack of any trace of information is very puzzling judging by the cast itself. Where did you guys get this video in the first place? Assuming that for some reason this wan't aired in Taiwan or solely released overseas, perhaps your source might be able to help us trace the original studio?

Thanks reinafu . I'll start with the links. Regarding your other questions: Era Group: My problem with a big corporation like Era is that things tend to be bureaucratic, and since I'm a nobody a question on a series would probably get kicked between offices until someone actually handles it. Also the basis for the question is just me guessing, and so it's not worth the effort unless I have something more solid. Cast: Besides Lung Tien Xiang, someone in a Taiwanese forum mentioned that Nancy Yen seemed to be the elder lady. According to e internet it seems that Nancy Yen retired in 1982, probably only from movies I guess. The photos here seem to confirm the looks. Her acting career also consists of martial arts movies. hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?id=3875&display_set=engAnother actress mentioned was Koon Jing Wah, the one where David Chiang touches her hand while holding a sword and she blushes. Koon married Adam Cheng in 1989 and before that she was a TV actress usually in Wuxia or historicals. One of her photos here look quite similar to the lady in the video. They seem to even have the same earrings (which may not mean much, though) baike.baidu.com/item/官晶华Paul Chang passed away in 2010, in Singapore. Before that he was managing a restaurant in Taiwan. There were two versions of White Horse and Yang Pan Pan was indeed in one of them. In the other one, made in Singapore, Li Wenxiu was played by 趙天麗/Chiao Tien Li, who seemed to also be active in Taiwan in the 80s as well. Here's an article on her from 1986 blog.xuite.net/kgbz/twblog/120299685

Nancy Yen ! Yes, of course ! IHer face was familiar to me, but sometimes I mistake her with Xu Feng or Ingrid Hu, so, I was convinced that it was Xu Feng there ! Yes, there are a lot of actors/actresses that are mentioned as retired in some year, and when you check informations elsewher, you see that they played in series after they were supposed to have retired !
I'm a member of Adam Cheng's international fan club and I have asked the admin in order to know if she could help us by asking Adam's wife regarding the series. Let's see what she'll answer...
Could you give me the title of the Yang Pan Pan's series, and the year too, please ? Is it the same name as David Chiang's series ?

After some more searching, it seems that the Yang Pan Pan version might be a mistake. According to Wikipedia and some pages the Yang Pan Pan version was filmed by RTV in 1979 with the title 白馬嘯西風. It is hard to find, and some people think that the existence of this version was simply a mistake someone made on the internet. Some websites use the following image as her photo in the series. I'm not sure whether it's really from the series or not. (Li uses meteor hammers in the novel, but maybe the series changed her weapons). No other cast is listed in this version. www.brns.com/picts2f/sharon5.jpgAccording to a recent interview with Yang, her career is like this: TVB->CTV->Movies->TVB. No mentioning of RTV or the White Horse series. The David Chiang series uses the same Chinese title, which is the title of the novel. Crossing fingers on Koon.

So, there are at least 3 sites saying that the series with Yang Pan Pan exists, in addition to wikipedia. Could it be possible that all these sites may be mistaken ? In one of them, it's even mentioned that there should have been a movie in 1961 adapted from this novel.
That's so strange, I was absolutely convinced that she had also played in ATV or RTV series !

The first link mentions two versions: 1. Zhang Ji Zhong's planned version. Note that Zhang mentions that in the past there was only one version, the "Taiwanese" version. The interview seemed to happen in 2008. 2. "Taiwanese" version. (Which is in fact the Singapore version starring David Chiang) The second and third link, like all the articles on the net only mention that there is a 1979 version by RTV starring Yang Pan Pan, and no other information. Baidu Zhidao has quite a few people asking about it and no one has seen it. I checked the editing history on Wikipedia and it seemed that in 2007 someone wrote that there was a Yang Pan Pan version in the '70s, and it was until April this year someone wrote that it was filmed in 1979. This means that a lot of the articles might just be referring to the Wikipedia entry when they mention it was filmed by RTV with Yang. The RTV show list on Wikipedia doesn't show the series, either. zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%BA%97%E7%9A%84%E9%9B%BB%E8%A6%96%E5%8A%87%E9%9B%86%E5%88%97%E8%A1%A8Compared to other series such as the HK CTV series and Nine Dragon Lantern we've been discussing these days, this one doesn't even have an opening theme video nor fight scene on the web. It was written by Jin Yong, who was far more famous than Chin Hong (I hope Chin doesn't see this :P ), and was on RTV but no Cantonese speaking fans have been discussing about it. Therefore the likeliness of this series seems kind of low.

yenchin reinafu yang pan pan was a big enough star that if she ever worked for RTV/ATV, she would have been a lead character or at least a major character in their productions. she has not appeared in any of the major wuxia productions of the late 70s, early 80s for RTV/ATV, so it's unlikely that she would've starred in an RTV production of 白馬嘯西風. the wiki page on her doesn't list this in her filmography, and you'd think that any JY adaptation would be prominently cited and talked about, even if it's a short story. i'm wondering if the original error was caused because that person mixed up 白馬嘯西風 with 越女劍 (Super Sword Lady 1986), starring lee choi fung and yueh wah. the latter is the other JY short story, and the two short stories are usually published in the same volume.

You found a list of RTV series !! That's great !! But unfortunately, it's all written in Chinese and I can't read it ! If I search on google with " List of RTV drama " or "RTV drama list " or " List of ATV drama ", I can't get anything but a tiny list of ATV that misses most of the series we are aware of !

No I wasn't thinking about anything, just amazed on how things spread these years. 10 years ago when searching stuff I knew where not to look. Nowadays it's like 20+ click-bait sites to clear and a lot of copy-pasting on individual articles, and information going back to some relatively better sources such as Wikipedia (For instance, the David Chiang White Horse series is still listed as Taiwanese produced on Wikipedia), thus getting more difficult to independently confirm information. The format of the RTV list is like this: Premier Date | Number of Episodes | Title | Producer | Cast | Notes |
Before 1978 the producer isn't shown.
