万万感谢! or in Hokkien we say ban ban kam sia yenchin Listening to hokkien always reminds me of my childhood, since my father and grandpa used to speak the language. I could understand a very little bit but can't pronounce it properly. I wonder if you could help me to find a poem of 北国风光,千里冰封,万里雪飘 pronounced in hokkien. I tried to find it but couldn't find it. My grandpa used to ask me to recite this poem in Hokkien, but now I'm totally forgotten all the hokkien pronunciation Many thanks in advance though! LOL I did a search on Youtube and couldn't find any. At best this is what I found. It is written in the literary pronunciation ("讀冊音") so you might find some of the pinyin (which I still have a hard time identifying which system is being used) quite different from the words used in daily conversation. Hoân khàn kim-tiau

Unfortunately probably due to education or other reasons I really didn't know much Hokkien/Taiwanese children's songs until I grew up. And to be frank, even currently my knowledge is extremely limited.
This is probably the only one I clearly remembered from my childhood.
"點仔膠" or "打馬膠" is a Taiwanese borrowed term (from "Tarmac") for asphalt.
Like I mentioned earlier, I really, really never heard of this lullaby until music class in elementary school. My mother used another song which so far I still don't know what it is.

Now for some folk songs.
This is mainly about a train with some sound words open to interpretation as well as a lot of interjections.

And to be frank, even currently my knowledge is extremely limited. Like I mentioned earlier, I really, really never heard of this lullaby until music class in elementary school. My mother used another song which so far I still don't know what it is. the song about the white egret is beautiful! and the lullaby: isn't it such a typical chinese parent thing to want the kid to grow up quickly! thanks for sharing these songs! i'm still going through your posts. you'd mentioned before that the gov't suppressed the learning and speaking of hokkien and taiwanese, so it's not surprising that you wouldn't've grown up with the traditional songs and folk tunes. a pity, really, how ethnic cultures get eroded by such interference. and it seems to be a world-wide problem--i hear about so many other ehtnic cultures being taken over by mainstream (which is more and more the english-speaking and american pop cultures). EDIT: watched your other vids! that cult priest chant song is hilarious! as for the other folk songs: it seems to be quite a typical style of folk songs to have those interjections. i notice it a lot in the mandarin folk songs i've come across. i don't know any of the canto and so few of the taishan ones to be able to comment if that's also the style--the children's songs i know are from HK, and most of those are contemporary ones rather than traditional ones.

Just like the Hokkien in Medan are pretty similar to Hokkien in Penang. But totally different from Hokkien in Taiwan, Xiamen, or Quanzhou.
