'She was too young': Fellow actors, netizens mourn Yammie Lam's death There has been an outpouring of grief on social media since former Hong Kong actress Yammie Lam was found dead in her home at the age of 55 on Saturday morning (Nov 3).
The actress was famous in the 1980s and 1990s and once deemed an unrivalled great beauty. But Lam led a troubled life and her later years were spent despondent - she was plagued by mental health issues, declared bankrupt and had to live on financial aid. Many netizens on Chinese microblogging site Weibo posted images and videos of the actress in her most famous role as Spider Woman in 1995's A Chinese Odyssey and lamented her difficult life. Chinese media Sina News reported that actress Carina Lau, who was Lam's classmate in the TVB actors training programme, reacted to Lam's death saying: "It's sad. She was too young. Recently I've received several news of friends and people I know passing away and I'm quite affected. "I hope she's happier and freer now that she's in another place." Actor Chapman To also posted on his Facebook page a black and white image of Lam and said: "We will never forget that Hong Kong once had such a wonderful actress. May you rest in peace." Sina News also reported that the veteran actor Law Kar-ying, a fellow cast member in A Chinese Odyssey, posted on his Wechat timeline about Lam. He wrote: "We don't really keep in contact but I saw her once while eating supper at a roadside. She told me then that there were supernatural 'things' harassing her. Hope she rests in peace." Lam reportedly began suffering from mental health issues in the late 1990s. She once admitted in an interview that she had tried to kill herself by slashing her wrists during a time of romantic turmoil. In the same interview, which first came to light in 2013, she said she was raped by two entertainment industry top players but the names were censored out of the clip. This year, the story resurfaced with a video that purportedly shows Lam naming the two rapists as the late actor-director Alan Tang and funnyman Eric Tsang. Tsang has also been accused of sexual assault by the former Asia-Pacific president of Ford Models Grace Han, who claims he is a known sexual predator in the circle and often targeted the models working under her. Tsang denied the claims. But as news of Lam's death broke, netizens flocked to Tsang's Weibo to leave comments on his page. The first post which appears on his feed, a picture of a luxury cruise he is on, posted on Oct 16 this year, has been flooded with comments about Lam's death. The post now has over 10,000 comments, with many simply posting a line that says "Yammie Lam has died". Others criticised Tsang for ruining Lam's life and asked him to wait for karma to catch up to him. www.asiaone.com/entertainment/she-was-too-young-fellow-actors-netizens-mourn-yammie-lams-death

Hongkong Actor Eric Tsang Accused Of Raping Former Actress Yammie Lam Eric Tsang the Harvey Weinstein of Hongkong showbiz? The big-name Hongkong star has been accused of preying on female celebs and pimping them out. His accuser: The Chinese godmother of modelling, Grace Han. Grace, the former Asia-Pacific president of American international modelling agency Ford Models, has nurtured many international supermodels like Du Juan. Grace made those damning accusations in a Weibo post today (Jan 11). “This scum [Eric] has sexually assaulted female celebs more than once. Everyone in the entertainment industry knows this,” she wrote, adding that her friends around her have also heard of Eric's alleged sexual misconduct. In the post, she shared a screen grab of a video that featured Eric and former Hongkong actress Yammie Lam Kit-ying. In 2013, Yammie made headlines when she claimed that she was raped two decades ago by two “big brothers” of the Hongkong showbiz scene. Yammie said that the assault had happened in Singapore and that she had attempted suicide several times after the rape. The original video had concealed the names of the offenders. But in 2014, Hongkong-based media personality Stephen Shiu disclosed the names of the two men: actor-director Alan Tang, who died of a heart attack in 2011, and funnyman Eric Tsang. Now, a video that went viral yesterday also name-checked Yammie's alleged rapists as Alan and Eric. When that vid made headlines, Eric quickly released a statement through his company, claiming that it was “fake news” and that the clip had been “falsely edited”. The 64-year-old added that he would be taking legal action against the creator of the video. In response to Eric's denial, Grace wrote a long, extremely damning post on her Weibo, claiming that Yammie isn’t the only victim of Eric’s predatory ways. She revealed how one of her models was invited to a KTV bar by Eric while she was in Hongkong, and Eric had allegedly spiked her drink when she went to the loo. In Grace’s Weibo post, in which she referred to herself as an ‘old woman’, she said: "When models go to Hongkong for work, he [Eric] would pretend to be the good guy and would take the models on KTV outings. Actually, he was just acting as a pimp. What has this old woman taught her students? That when you're in a foreign place and you get invited by someone of a certain status to go out and play at night, don't go! This jerk came over to initiate conversation with my student, but she ignored him. In the end, this jerk said that a superstar would also be there, and a bunch of [models] were convinced to go.” "One of this old woman's students also went. But I have taught my students that when you are in public place and you have to go to the toilet, do not drink from the same cup that you’ve drank from before when you return. My student came out of the loo, and only after drinking from her cup, did she recall what I told her. She immediately went to the toilet, stuck her finger down her throat, and vomited the drink out. When she came out, [she saw that] all the other six models had collapsed onto the floor. The men who were present carried one of the models each and left. Only this old woman's student was left [in the room]. At this point, Eric said to another jerk in Cantonese, 'Why hasn't [the drug] taken effect?' The moment she heard it, [my student] collapsed on the floor immediately, and was dragged into a car. Later on, my student used the method this old woman taught her to get out of the situation (I cannot teach [the method] online, if not the perverts will know). The next day, my student took the early flight by herself to return to Beijing. The other six models never turned up.” She ended her post by reminding kids to protect themselves. “If you've been sexually assaulted, don't be shy, it's those jerks who sexually assaulted you who should be ashamed! Call the cops immediately! It’s because no one calls the police, that this jerk repeatedly gets his way! ” This isn’t the first nor second time that Eric has been accused of sexual misconduct. In 1989, when Eric directed and starred in the movie Fatal Vacation, it was rumoured that he had acted out a rape scene with an actress… for real. After filming wrapped, the female art director slammed Eric’s actions as “inhumane”. Part of the rape scene was subsequently deleted from the movie. In response to Grace’s claims, Eric has released a statement accusing her of slander. He said that he had already brought the case to court, and is demanding for compensation for the damage done to his reputation. The statement also asked for Grace to look out for his lawyer’s letter. To which, Grace simply replied: "Okay! Sitting here waiting [for the letter]!” www.8days.sg/sceneandheard/entertainment/hongkong-actor-eric-tsang-accused-of-raping-former-actress-9852308

Artistes Guild, Led by Louis Koo, to Help with Yammie Lam’s Funeral Arrangements Members of the public have reacted with sadness, shock, and pity since news of Yammie Lam‘s (藍潔瑛) solitary passing in her Hong Kong apartment on November 3 surfaced. Since the police has been unable to contact her family, Yammie’s fan club has expressed its keen wishes that her old friends in the entertainment circle help to take care of the former actress’ funeral arrangements. Louis Koo (古天樂), as the current president of the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild (HKPAG), also issued a statement that he will assist with the funeral with trying to get in touch with Yammie’s family. According to Apple Daily, Yammie is the youngest in the family. Her parents had passed away in the 1990s. She has an elder brother and sister, as well as three other elder half-brothers from a different mother. Although Yammie’s relationship with her family grew distant after adulthood, her siblings would still come to her aid and offer their concern whenever she faced financial difficulties. However since her death, the police has been unable to contact her family members. Earlier, president of the HKPAG Louis Koo issued a statement which mentioned that the Guild will assist with Yammie’s funeral, and has called upon her close friend, Meg Lam (林建明), and Gordon Lam (林家棟) to try and reach out to Yammie’s sister. Adding that he is aware that Yammie came from an ordinary family who might not be able to afford an extravagant funeral, Louis says that they will discuss with Yammie’s family and that the Guild is willing to bear all funeral-related expenses. However, as he noted, their utmost priority at the moment is to gain contact with Yammie’s family. “We will do our very best to help Yammie’s family with the funeral arrangements, (because) she is a part of our entertainment circle,” he said. www.jaynestars.com/news/artistes-guild-led-by-louis-koo-to-help-with-yammie-lams-funeral-arrangements/

what a tragedy! RIP yammie!
it's a sad reality that in all the professions wherein a woman's looks and beauty are the key to their job, rape is so prevalent and perpetrated by those in power. it's known that there are many (often older actors) in the HK entertainment/movie industry who are pimps for the younger/fledgling actresses. at the bottom rung are those who are basically cheap prostitutes; the more "higher ranking" ones become the mistresses of rich men. don't be fooled about actresses who have "boyfriends" who are older and rich--they are kept women.

True. And sadly this is not only in HK. it's almost a worldwide practice Just look at Harvey Weinstein. I'm sure there are more hidden cases, but nobody wants to talk this taboo thing. I have lots of friends in film industry. therefore I am pretty well informed about the chaotic life in the entertainment industry. Actually, the victims are not only women. Some young actors often also become victims of rape, or pimped out to female bosses, or forced to do things out of their will.

Did not know she has died.
Actresses and actors should be given more protection. They should speak out if they are assaulted. Too many fear for their jobs or image.
