leslie was fabulous in this! i still don't like liza's voice. leslie would've been better paired with cecilia wong or susanna au-yeung.
here's cecilia and anita mui singing 劍合釵圓

I have no idea of Cantonese. So for me, Liza Wang was already good enough. The way she sang was pretty good for someone who was not trained in opera. Cause apparently singing in that kind of way is VERY difficult. I've been learning guqin, and sometimes we're required to sing the song while playing. Even for simple songs such as 湘妃怨 or 秋风辞, it's very difficult to sing, not to mention a song like 帝女花

I didn't know that Cecilia WOng and Susanna Au Yeung were also singers. Did they sang some TV themes, and if so, which ones, please ?
I had seen this clip of Leslie Cheung and Liza a while ago and I was absolutely mesmerized to discover that Leslie Cheung was able to sing opera and that he was very good at it !

siuyiu : got it. I guess now I know what you mean after you gave me samples of good Canto Operas. True, Peking Opera is more difficult to sing, but sounds wise, I still prefer to hear Cantonese Opera or Kunqu Opera. Peking Opera really makes me dizzy. But I love Peking Opera costumes and make up

But I love Peking Opera costumes and make up that's interesting--i haven't come across anyone who, liking peking opera, prefers cantopera singing! i personally haven't gotten used to the peking opera singing style--it's too sharp, for a lack of a better way to describe it. cantopera is more easy on the ears for me. but yeah, the costumes for peking opera is amazing, that's for sure!

I agree, Lisa Wang does not have the singing voice for Cantonese Opera. Basically, I find her voice weak. Leslie Cheung's voice outshone Lisa Wang's totally. I grew up listening to my father's Cantonese opera too. There was no escape when the Cantonese opera is being played in the car in a long drive - some 8 hours of it.

siuyiu chefying : ATV series Princess Chang Ping didn't make her lost one arm. Biu Xue Jian of Jin Yong made her lost one arm (like in history), but there's no Zhou Shixian on it.
