thx kyc. and Who is the real founder of tianshan sect? 1. Baidu said Huo Tiandu in the early Ming Dynasty. 2. Wikipedia said the Mount Heaven School is founded during the late Ming dynasty by Reverend Huiming, a Buddhist monk who was formerly a military attaché under the general Xiong Tingbi. 3. some sources, like spcnet members, said the founder is Zhang Danfeng. so who is the actual one? Strictly speaking, Huo Tiandu is the one who laid the foundations of the Mount Heaven Sect. But during that time, he belongs to no sect and it is only until Reverend Huiming that the sect becomes known as "Mount Heaven Sect". Zhang Danfeng only gives pointers. He is not otherwise involved in Mount Heaven sect. At least this is what I remember. Huo Tiandu and Qiao Beiming can be found in Lian jian fengyun lu (聯劍風雲錄). Huo Tiandu is even tricked into teaching Qiao Beiming some orthodox inner strength cultivation techniques. P.S. edit: Some people say in Guangling Jian, Huo Tiandu becomes Zhang Danfeng's disciple. I haven't read till that book so I can't comment. I'm reading Baidu about this; there seems to be some chronological inconsistency within the novels. If Huo Tiandu is the master of Reverend Huiming, then Huo Tiandu cannot be from early Ming Dynasty and his disciple from late Ming and early Qing. There is a span of several centuries in between.

I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks that multiple heroes and changing perspectives - LYS's trademark is somewhat tiring and confusing? It can get really confusing and disorganized. JY's The Book and the Sword is the best this "multiple heroes" formula can be, structurally. But then it is used a lot in Chinese wuxia novels, like Shuihu Zhuan. But Shuihu Zhuan, or even Romance of Three Kingdoms, although they have multiple heroes, but they're connected together in a very strong bond. While LYS books just randomly have multiple characters in the novel. For example in 冰川天女转- Glacier Maiden; at the very beginning it seems that she's the main character, but later on, we find out, it's not. Who is the main character in the novel? Not Glacier Maiden, but Jin Shiyi.

JY abandoned this model after The Book and the Sword, even his epic long novels generally only follow one hero from his perspective. I don't mind LYS's formula as long as it's not too disorganized.

i am curious to know, which LYS' novel is your most favorite one? I think they are all quite close, but I remember The White-haired Demoness 白髮魔女傳, The Wanderer's Chronicles 萍縱俠影錄 and Yunhai Yugong Yuan 雲海玉弓緣 best. I think LYS's novels are quite even, they even share the same faults.😉 Some novels are a bit too chaotic for me, e.g. The Three Heroines of Jianghu 江湖三女俠.

Yeah, you're right. I can also recommend Lianjian Fengyun Lu 聯劍風雲錄 because of Huo Tiandu and Qiao Beiming, but to get the most out of that novel, you should read the two books that precede it, The Wanderer's Chronicles and Sanhua Nvxia.

I've finished another LYS novel and this time it's another continuation of the Mount Heaven series--Xiagu Danxin (俠骨丹心, "Chivalric Bones, Crimson Heart").
The last time I said LYS has this "multiple heroes" formula and this is less the case here. About 70% of this novel is seen from the perspective of Jin Zhuliu (金逐流), the son of Jin Shiyi and Gu Zhihua. He arrives in mainland China dressed as a beggar like his father in the past and impressed everyone with his martial arts. And he has few rivals who can beat him except mainly his sect brother Jiang Haitian.
Jin Zhuliu undergoes a series of adventures and eventually bonds with Shi Hongying (史紅英), whose brother Shi Baidu (史白都) is the main antagonist, a lackey of the Manchu regime. Jin Zhuliu also becomes the sworn brother of Li Nanxing (厲南星), the nephew of Li Shengnan in YHYGY. Some people want to revive the Tianmo (Heavenly Devil) Sect and make Li Nanxing their leader, but the latter is not keen. There is a love triangle between Jin Zhuliu, Shi Hongying and Li Nanxing, and Shi Hongying eventually chooses Jin Zhuliu. Li Nanxing is dejected but not for long, since LYS arranges another girl, the feisty Gongsun Yan (公孫燕), as his partner. The rest of the novel is about how the Han rebel forces oppose the Manchu invaders.
The really fascinating parts of the novel comprise Jin Shiyi coming back incognito to the mainland (he was on a remote island) and beating Jiang Haitian and Jin Zhuliu combined. There is also a long episode about the Fusang Island, where the highly skilled inheritors of an ancient sect (see Datang Youxia Zhuan) manage to create trouble even for Jin Shiyi.
Once again LYS seems careless about minor details. At the start of the novel, he says Jin Shiyi is about to celebrate his 50th birthday. Later in the book, he mentions that Jin Shiyi is in his 60s. Since Jin Shiyi only married at age 40 and Jin Zhuliu is around 20 here, JSY is probably around 60 or so in this novel.

Thank you so much kyc. I've been waiting to hear your thoughts on this one. I've watched a TV adaption many years ago and it is said that it's quite faithful to the novel. I wonder though when JYS comes back to the mainland does his wife Gu ZhiHua accompany him? This is the case of the TV adaption. And I had no idea this novel connects with the Datang YouXia Zhuan series, that is very cool. I feel though Li NanXing is almost a rehash of Li ShengNan as a character just as a different gender, I mean even the love triangle between the 3 main characters is similiar. lol. But unlike Li ShengNan he survives and doesn't die so the Li family is not completely wiped out which surprised me. Maybe one day I will go and read the entire novel.

Yes, Gu Zhihua does return with Jin Shiyi. And I find Li Nanxing not so extremist or heretical as Li Shangnan--and probably less memorable as well.

Glacier Maiden (as it's suggested by the title) should be the main character. But then in the middle...Jin Shiyi dominated the whole story, and then the next book is about Jin Shiyi. Therefore again...so confusing. I personally really like Glacier Maiden's love interest, Tang Jingtian. But he had a very small role in the novel.

oh i have watched it, the story is very similar to your review for the novel, except there is no fight between jin shiyi vs jiang haitian and jin zhuliu, the story ended when Jin Zhuliu rescued Shi Hongying from evil eunuch, who is the main antagonist after the death of shi baidu (i believe this eunuch is not exist in novel). and the adaptation use late ming dynasty era. it's happy ending. Jin Shiyi also cured from his old illness (fire deviation from learning martial arts that i forget the name, MA of Gui Zhihua's sect i believe).
What i feel weird is in early story, both Jin Shiyi + Gu Zhihua are injured badly by someone called Meng Shentong, even though i have not read the novel yet, but i believe Jin Shiyi is not that weak, and both ganged up meng shentong?.
i must say, this Jin Zhuliu is so similar to Yuan Zhiyi in sswrb, trained by one of the strongest character in novel since childhood , lived in secluded area , first time went to jianghu and already become a very strong character, not much pressure.

Meng Shentong is the father of Gu Zhihua so he will never injure her. It's Li Shengnan who gangs up with Jin Shiyi against him and eventually kills him. But they are injured in the process.
