Very interesting premise and seems very different from the basic plot line of 'Mythical Crane' and 'Snow is Red' (both involved a converted treasure and a main protagonist going from a nobody to somebody).

I think I need t explorer more of WLS's work to see the variety. I've read some commentaries that said WLS indeed created a lot of powerful strong female characters, but, they all ended up marrying the male protagonist. So, it's like the female characters are still accessories to the main male protagonist. They are there to help the main guy out, teach him martial arts and be his love interest. They don't have their own story. But, in LYS's novels, the female characters have their own friends, own story, own mission and duty. They can choose other things over love. They are not accessories. That's why many people brought up LYS when they talk about strong females character. They are not just strong in ability. Base on the 2 WLS's books I have read, I tend to agree. But, reading your premise of "Whirlwind Beauty", I might change my mind. Btw, I think "Red Snow, Black Frost" might be named after two girls, but, the central character is still Fang Zhao Nan. Looking forward for more of your write-up about WLS.

Btw, I think "Red Snow, Black Frost" might be named after two girls, but, the central character is still Fang Zhao Nan. Is that based on the novel or the TV serial? I have that book but have not read it yet. It's also high on the list of books I want to read. My wife has read it and didn't like it at all. I forget why. Critics praise it, though. EDIT: I just read a plot summary for this novel online and I see what you mean. Yeah, basically three girls falling all over the male lead. Can't really count that one then.

I just finish chapter 9 of "Red Snow, Black Frost". So far I like it. I think the plot and characters are both an improvement for "Mythical Crane". But, I don't know how the plot will progress later.

He thought to himself before saving the child if he should help the boy or not, knowing it would put him at a disadvantage at the meeting should he have to fight because he would not be at full strength, but he saves the boy anyway for his wife. This situation is similar to the dilemma faced by North Emperor in LOCH.
