I had some time these few weeks, so I finished the last installment of the Datang 大唐 trilogy, Huijian Xinmo (《慧劍心魔》). The title comes from Buddhism, meaning one must exorcise the demons of one's heart by slashing them away with a sword of wisdom. The novel starts intriguing enough, with Zhan Bocheng 展伯承 as the main protagonist. His parents have been murdered in a vendetta dating back to the first installment, Datang Youxia Zhuan, but his mother forbids him to take revenge. He takes refuge in a village with a close friend of his maternal grandfather, Zhu Sui 褚遂, who wants him to marry his grand-daughter, Zhu Baoling 褚葆齡, but she already has a sweetheart Liu Mang, 劉芒. They end up in a love triangle. Hence, Huijian Xinmo means people must slash away the entanglements of the heart and be devoted to a single partner. Of course, as with almost all LYS novels, many couples tie the knot at the end. People who read LYS novels will know what I mean. Zhan Bocheng later ends up with the daughter of Tie Mole, Tie Ning 鐵凝. Starting from midway in the novel, the political plot line becomes the main thread. The Uighurs (回紇) try to take control of smaller states and threaten the Tang Dynasty. The Tang emperor had invited them to help in the An Lushan rebellion, but now, the Uighurs are attempting to seize power. Fortunately, by the end of the novel, they have been repelled from Youzhou 幽州. I do find the novel on the formulaic side. The younger generations will meet some baddies whom they cannot defeat, then some senior fighters will appear to save them. Then they part. The same thing will happen again. I have no complaints about the language though. I do think LYS has a poetic style which is enjoyable if you can appreciate it. So the Datang trilogy ends: Datang Youxia Zhuan --> Longfeng Baochai Yuan --> Huijian Xinmo. This is the shortest of the interconnected novels of LYS. Next up, I shall continue with the woefully long Tianshan series (Qing Dynasty). I am not too familiar with this trilogy, but I do know there was a TV adaption of Datang Youxia Zhuan (the first story) with Victor Huang starring in it and it was quite well received. I'm not sure how faithful it is to the original novel but I wonder why no TV station did a TV series of the follow up novels. Since you have finished all 3 novels kyc, how many years pass by in between the 3 novels?

At the start of this novel, Duan Kexie is born and abducted by Kongkong'er. It ends with the execution of Yang Guifei at Mawei. Longfeng Baochai Yuan, I estimate, takes place about 8 years later, just when the An Lushan Rebellion is about to end. Huijian Xinmo... probably 8 years after the second installment.

once i asked my online friend , if in Jin Yong's world the strongest character should be Dugu Qiubai and Sweeper Monk, what about LYS'? he gave me his heroes ranking version; 1. Zhang Danfeng - Pinzong Xiaying Lu 2. Jin Shiyi - Yunhai Yugong Yuan 3. Qiao Beiming - Lianjian Fengyun Lu 4. Yue Mingke - Baifa Monu Zhuan 5. Meng Sintong - Yunhai Yugong Yuan 6. Lu Suniang - Jianghu San Nuxia 7. Lian Nichang - Baifa Monu Zhuan 8. Ling Meifeng - Qijian Xia Tianshan 9. Tong Xiaolan - Jianghu San Nuxia 10. Li Shengnan - Yunhai Yugong Yuan of course it's just for fun. but what is your opinion? I believe the top two are interchangeable between Jin Shiyi and Zhang Danfeng. JSY is probably stronger in the internal cultivation skills compared to ZDF, while ZDF is stronger in swordplay compared to JSY. Afterall, ZDF is the founding father of the Mt. Heaven school and literally, been written as the best swordman of his era while JSY as the best martial artist of his era. From the Mt. Heaven series, it's probably: 1. Zhang Danfeng / Jin Shiyi 3. Qiao Beiming - Lianjian Fengyun Lu 4. Yue Mingke / Lian Nichang 6. Meng Hua - final 2 novels of Mt. Heaven series MH inherited the long lost ZDF swordplay and internal cultivation skills 300 years after ZDF, and became the best swordman of his generation in Mu Ye Liu Xing, and the best of his era in the final 2 novels of Mt Heaven series. Even Jin Zhuliu admitted that MH swordplay will be better than him in the next 3 years during the Mu Ye Liu Xing event and better than the Tianshan school already. 7. Jiang Haytian / Jin Zhuliu - Mu Ye Liu Xing JHT has the strongest internal energy in that era whilst JZL is the best swordman 9. Meng Sintong - Yunhai Yugong Yuan The last person who managed to master Shura Yin Sha Gong to the highest level 9 (with Li Shengnan after) 10. Tang Jingtian - Mu Ye Liu Xing TJT has a very deep internal cultivation skills in his advanced age Ling Weifeng and Lu Suniang were probably overrated as during the 7 Swords time, Tianshan swordplay weren't as completed as during Tang Xiaolan time in Yun Hai Yu Gong Yuan story, while Lu Suniang was said to be the best at that time but there weren't any strong enemies in her time. His Song and Tang dynasty stories also have strong heroes and characters.

故事是什么 (jade bow connections) will be adapted into drama, est.release year 2024 . what is the story about? 故事是什么 means "what is the story about". You must have copied the wrong Chinese characters. From the English translation, it sounds like Lofty Waters, Jade Bow (Yunhai yugong yuan).

Yunhai yugong yuan, in short, is about the love triangle between Jin Shiyi, Gu Zhihua and Li Shengnan. Without giving too much away, there's a long episode where Jin Shiyi and Li Shengnan go to an island to hunt down Qiao Beiming's long-lost kungfu manual. Then they fight Meng Shentong, who is Gu Zhihua's real father and a bad guy.

thx kyc.
and Who is the real founder of tianshan sect?
1. Baidu said Huo Tiandu in the early Ming Dynasty. 2. Wikipedia said the Mount Heaven School is founded during the late Ming dynasty by Reverend Huiming, a Buddhist monk who was formerly a military attaché under the general Xiong Tingbi. 3. some sources, like spcnet members, said the founder is Zhang Danfeng.
so who is the actual one?
edit extra information: bai fa monu zhuan english translator in preface, said Yu Mingke was the person who officially established the sect's eminence, therefore is considered as the founder of the sect.
Ling Weifeng was the first generation leader of the "Tianshan Sect" according to baidu

Strictly speaking, Huo Tiandu is the one who laid the foundations of the Mount Heaven Sect. But during that time, he belongs to no sect and it is only until Reverend Huiming that the sect becomes known as "Mount Heaven Sect". Zhang Danfeng only gives pointers. He is not otherwise involved in Mount Heaven sect. At least this is what I remember. Huo Tiandu and Qiao Beiming can be found in Lian jian fengyun lu (聯劍風雲錄). Huo Tiandu is even tricked into teaching Qiao Beiming some orthodox inner strength cultivation techniques. P.S. edit: Some people say in Guangling Jian, Huo Tiandu becomes Zhang Danfeng's disciple. I haven't read till that book so I can't comment.

Another LYS novel finished, this time it is Fenglei zhen Jiuzhou (《風雷震九州》, "Wind and Thunder Quake China"), a continuation of the long Mount Heaven series.
This time, the undisputed No. 1 martial artist is Jiang Haitian (江海天), whom, if one remembers, is the disciple of Jin Shiyi and the hero of the earlier Binghe Xijian Lu 《冰河洗劍錄》. By this book, he has married Gu Zhonglian (谷中蓮) and has a teenage daughter Jiang Xiaofu (江曉芙). The novel follows LYS's tried-and-tested formula: multiple heroes, changing perspectives, plenty of young people pairing off into couples, an excessive number of characters, a fight in almost every chapter. If you like these, then the book will prove enjoyable.
The novel's main plot is Jiang Haitian saving his disciples after two of them get abducted; there are also long episodes with anti-Manchu forces fighting the Qing troops. Jiang Haitian has accepted four disciples, two of them pre-teens, and the one who gets the most exposure is Ye Lingfeng (葉凌風), a scheming character who impersonates himself as Gu Zhonglian's nephew and gains the trust of the family. While at first not entirely wicked, Ye Lingfeng later defects to the Qing forces since his father is the official in charge of them. LYS follows Ye Lingfeng's downward spiral in some detail, and this is something he hasn't really done in earlier books.
In short, this book is perhaps mainly interesting for its villain Ye Lingfeng, but if you like multiple heroes like in The Book and the Sword, this will certainly prove entertaining.

Thank you so much kyc. I was wondering when you were going to continue the long Mt. Heaven Saga. lol This novel doesn't seem to be as popular. I think because Jiang HaiTian is a boring character. He's not a bad character by any means but he seems like every other male protagonist in any story. Would it state anymore how old Jin ShiYi is at this point? I am actually more interested in the next novel that comes after this one.

Usually, LYS will designate one martial artist as the No. 1, and this time it happens to be Jiang Haitian. Jin Shiyi has emigrated to a secluded island with his wife and is probably in his 50s by this book... He is mentioned but does not appear. And yeah, the next book, I heard, will feature JSY's son. Jiang Haitian will still be around...

It can get really confusing and disorganized. JY's The Book and the Sword is the best this "multiple heroes" formula can be, structurally. But then it is used a lot in Chinese wuxia novels, like Shuihu Zhuan.
