I saw a few versions which have the men wear non-Qing hairstyle which looks more like Ming dynasty hairstyle. But after reading the wikipedia I'm "convinced" that A Deadly Secret is set during Qing dynasty. Are there any TV adaptations which are set during the Qing dynasty?

I do not know which adaptation you watched, so I am not sure about the hair styles to which you refer. However, I know that the Mings did not pleat a queue, they had topknots. When the Qings took control, they implemented the Manchurian queue hairstyle, with the front half of the head shaved clean. The Han Chinese did not like it, so the Qing saying was, "Keep your hair (on the front half of the head) and lose your head" 留发不留头. I think it was during QianLong's reign that the Qing Emperor allowed the Hans to the front of the head unshaved, but the queue remained - so no top knots.

Was there really a killing weapon called the flying guillotine? It seems to be first mentioned in early Qing Dynasty novels. Whether it's real or not is hard to know. The Shaw Brothers popularized it. But what has it to do with A Deadly Secret, haha. As for the hairstyle, chefying said it better than I could myself. All the adaptations seem to have Ming Dynasty hairstyle. You can't tell when the story's set by reading the text alone, especially the second edition. The story is based on an old servant of JY's household. So it happened in the late Qing Dynasty.

There are three clues to it being set in Qing Dynasty: 1) Book illustrations 2) 3rd edition changes. The Deer and the Cauldron is set in the Qing Dynasty and they share a character. 3) In the afterword, JY mentions it was adapted from his old servant's story. So there is no clue inside the second edition text at all.

it's not easy to ask actors to cut their hair, so they just ignore the queue hairdo same thing happen to Miejue Shitai in HSDS, she is a buddhist nun, but TV adaptation make her looks like taoist priestess.
A Deadly Secret is set in Qing for sure, but differ to wikipedia or other source, i would put ADS timeline after The Trilogy Fox (the book n the sword, young flying fox, the fox volant of the snowy mountain)
