Thanks for the link, siuyiu . I stumbled on another YouTube video with quite a lot of Korean comments on the different Xiaolongnvs of the past. Obviously I don't understand Korean and the video seems to be on the various actresses cast as XLN, but it's the comments that are interesting. You can opt to translate them into English using Google. Overall Li Yifei seems to have won the most votes, at least for the prettiest XLN. Translation decode: Shinjohyeopryeo - Return of the Condor Heroes

This one is by the same Korean commentator on Zhao Min. Judging from the comments, Kitty Lai's 1986 ZM won by a landslide. A few also like the 2019 ZM.

kyc good point! the inherent misogyny in wuxia has always made audiences (sometimes esp the female ones) be super-critical about the looks.

kyc good point! the inherent misogyny in wuxia has always made audiences (sometimes esp the female ones) be super-critical about the looks. I agree with the audiences part. Maybe less with the "inherent misogyny in wuxia" part. I don't know if misogyny is the right word - maybe more "male chauvinism" or "gender inequality". Gu Long obviously loves his women... as sexual creatures. Whether it counts as a sort of misogyny is more for the women to say. JY, on the other hand, once said that "worship of women" is inherent in his works and those of many other Chinese writers. If you worship women, you obviously can't hate them. I do agree that JY's worship of women can get a little suffocating, in that a character like XLN is not allowed to grow old. With LYS and Wang Dulu, it's even less the case. No one can say they are misogynists, very much the opposite. LYS wrote many novels from the perspective of women, even the Seven Swords contain four women (although the spiritual leader, Ling Weifeng, is a guy). In many of his novels, a woman or women is/are the central character(s). With Wang Dulu, you can see that he is often critical of the silly vendettas and fights male characters get into, that arise because of ego problem or pointless adherence to "loyalty". For example, with Li Mubai. Wang Dulu is definitely more sympathetic with women characters. BTW, "pro-women" in LYS and Wang Dulu does not mean "anti-men". Both of them created many memorable male characters too. There are other wuxia writers who feature women prominently - Wolong Sheng, Shiao Yi, the Qing dynasty guy who wrote Ernu Yingxiong Zhuan, and maybe even Huanzhu Louzhu (if the TV series is to be trusted). I have read none of the rest though.
