Looks like they changed the order of the story to make it strictly chronological. Mainly from LOCH.
Let me gripe: 2024 is the centenary of Jin Yong's birth, but it's also LYS's! No one ever mentioned LYS was also born in 1924, just one month later in March.

PZXYL has been adapted many times, the latest one starring Dong Jie and Pan Yueming, while YHYGY was adapted back in the 90s. Don't understand why they can't shoot other novels. They should have learnt from the fiascos of recent JY dramas. JY novels have more exciting plots, which is why LYS is less often adapted. But still LYS wrote many good novels, it's not his fault the ratings aren't high.

a friend sent me the link of ep1 on YT--skims over GJ growing up in mongolia and straight to meeting HR and YK & MNC's 1st meeting in the fight. so no, not strictly chronological like the titles seem to suggest.
and verdict's still out on the actor choices. i already don't like HYS.

My impression for this 2024 adaptation: not as good as 2017 version, the story is too rushed. but i am curious about the "Huashan Tournament" part, because in the novel, they dont tell how the tournament looks like, is it use a Battle Royale (all 5 in one arena) system? or 1 on 1? general consensus is a battle royale system, but there are some clues in the novel that i believe is more like 1 on 1 (round robin system). Also there are 2 original characters not in the novel (or they are, but i dont know): Yi Huo (played by Hani Kezi), appear in "Southern Emperor and Northern Beggar" part of story Dan Min , will appear in "Eastern Heretic and Western Venom" part of story

Just two years ago I watched the adaptation of 武当一剑 The First Sword of Wudang. And when I watched the first two three episodes of the series, I was blown away with the way they made the series. The series was shot in Hubei - the location of Wudang. The part where the story about the Manchu, they shot the film in Dongbei, and even with Manchu written language. Was really beautiful. But then when the story developed.. then.. it's really all over the place. I still watched it until the end. But if you ask me what's the story all about...I totally forget it. Too many characters, too many plots and twists.

Totally agree with you. I couldn't believe they chose a not handsome/ charismatic actor as HYS. Instead, they chose a good looking actor as Ouyang Feng.
