actually, after skimming the relevant sections quickly (to get the synopsis), i think this is more along the lines of homer's iliad and odyssey, the epic of gilgamesh, and the story of beowulf. i agree that there are elements that are shared with wuxia, like a historical context (if we exclude GL's stories), some sort of social unrest, and certainly individual heroes/heroines who-make-the-difference. but one thing that greatly differs between these epics and the wuxia genre is that the heroes/heroines of wuxia novels are generally outsiders/outlaws/anti-establishment, whereas those in epic poems tend to be part of the status quo and aim to uphold it. if you HAD to make the comparison, wuxia heroes/heroines tend to be more messianic (like jesus christ) and robin hood-like because they can effect change and improve the lives of the suffering populace IN SPITE of the incompetence of the government and various law-enforcers; in fact, it's BECAUSE the law is so ineffective/corrupt that these outlaws MUST take matters into their own hands.

It is along story, and I watched it on TV some 25 years ago. Yes, there were wars and fighting, a bit wuxia-like. And as siuyiu said, it was a bit like the Iliad as well.
I feel there was more philosophy in it though. Perhaps this make the Mahabharata more GuLong-ish.

Whoa Chef....25 years ago Right now there's a new Mahabharat shown on TV. They also have some uploaded on youtube. Really epic and so many good looking actors and actresses You should search under the keyword "mahabharat 2013, starpus" Anyway, you guys right..it's more like Homer's Illiad and Odyssey. I'm reading the books, and see how they have some martial art skills, and ethic codes like that in wuxia, that remind me a lot of wuxia.
