Does anyone have ever seen this series in dvd format with Mandarin language ? Kong Do, Sun Chien and Wei Pai play in it and it seems adapted form a novel from Gu Long.
Here is the Chinese title :
刀巴记

Correction : I thought that it was a Gu Long's book, because it was mentioned on gulongbbs, but according to baike baidu, the author of the novel is Wen Ruian, but maybe you all know this, already...
That's so strange that I can't fiind any information on google about the taiwanese series adapted from this novel : with actors such as Kong Do, Sun Chien and Wei Pai in it, that's really, really strange !
Well, maybe we'll need to create a blog for this one too !!

Yes, 刀巴記 is Wen Ruian's work. It's part of the 布衣神相 series (ATV and TVB have both adapted it in 1984 and 2006, respectively.)
Can't find anything about the series either. Is it another direct video? So, like what we did with the Nine Dragon Warriors, is there a package? Any screenshots or opening credits? Sources, US/Europe distributors?
With all these direct-to-video works popping out overseas it seems really interesting on what else people have. So far I couldn't find anything about Taiwanese direct-to-videos, regardless of genre, besides an obscure old news about an erotic video. It's kind of like some alternate history that only some limited people remember.

There is a clip here :
I searched with the Chinese title you gave and found that the TVB series is Face to fate, but what is the title of the ATV adaptation, please ?

The ATV adaption's Chinese title is 神相李布衣 and stars Ricky Lau (劉緯民) as the main character. Kenny Ho is also in it. I compared some names of this series with the video and they didn't match. On the other hand, the video's opening song is in Cantonese and the editing, the angles seems Hong Kong-ish. It's interesting that while it says 刀巴記 in the titles, the Vietnamese title is full of words and the pronunciation doesn't match either 刀巴記 or anything related to 布衣神相. It's probably just the Vietnamese distributors making up their own title. Anyway while typing this I'm getting near something. The names listed are similar to some ATV productions so this is likely also an ATV production. Edit: Another video of the same opening additionally shows the original logo of 銀鳳影業 (Silver Bird Films, SBF), which seems to be out of business. I did another search and noticed the wiki of an actor mentioning that he worked for SBF on "several direct-to-video" works. And eventually I found some other old news, mentioning that Wang Rong (王戎), a Taiwanese actor (who's name is also in the opening), formed SBF with some friends in Hong Kong, which focused on direct-to-video productions. Aha, finally we've found something interesting, but I guess that means there might not be a Mandarin version of this series. Mandarin or not. Another gem in the mysterious direct-to-video productions.

I think you should be called Yenchin Holmes...
Thank you so much for all these informations !
Do you know who is the eunuch or chief officer who fights with Wei Pai in the first clip ?
And why " direct to video " should mean no Mandarin version, please ?
Do you have a picture of this actor Wang Rong ? All what I find is a king in a dynasty (I don't remember which one), either with the English name or the chinese name...
And the actor who kneels down when the Imperial edict is read is also familiar to me, but I can't name him.
Is there a list of the series produced by this Morris Weinberg ? I recently got Me, lucky guy (or Young fearless boxer) and it seems that I have a few other ones. Are these direct to video productions too ? Me, lucky guy in in original vcd format (it's so rare to find original for these gems !). I wonder if my original of Broken-hearted sworsdsman isn't also a Morris Weinberg production, as well as The secret warrant (but one disc is missing, argh !!!).

Thanks for the compliments. Other actors: No I can't identify them. Mandarin version: I probably made this conclusion too quick. I felt that the series would probably be only distributed in Hong Kong. But that's a silly guess considering the market at that time. Not to mention they worked with Taiwanese filmmakers on Kinmen Bombs (1986) Wang Rong: www.hkcinemagic.com/en/people.asp?id=2856Weinberg/Direct to Video: Maybe. Because by using the names on the video I found a list on the internet titled "Asian series unpublished opening themes", which made me initially think that these were ATV productions. I checked a couple titles, and like Nine Dragon Warriors and A Killing Love, couldn't find anything besides their original novels. Which seems like the pattern of direct to video series based on our current experience. Lots of names show up again and again in the list. I guess SBF at least was big enough so the internet still has some limited information here and there. tinyurl.com/ybgy4jowjump2.bdimg.com/mo/q----,sz@320_240-1-3---2/m?kz=5380800559&new_word=&r=1&pinf=1_2_0&pn=30&lp=6005 BY he way, Wen Rui An was the "Creativity Manager" of SBF. Surprise!

Oh, yes, I know him, but I only know him under the name Wong Yung, that's why I didn't know who you were talking about ! The first time I saw him, I was 14 years old and I saw him in The Righteous Fist in a cinema and I still remembered this movie after...almost 40 years when I finally got, first, a custom made dvd in English, and second, the original vcd that I got this year. Chiao Chiao was the first female fighter I saw at that time, still in a cinema, and it was in Dragon Blows, and that's how I became a crazy addicted to this kind of movies, and later series !
I'm sorry, but I don't understand what is in the two last links you gave. I saw a list of Morris Weinberg titles, maybe, and on the other link, I don't know what it is. In the first link, there is a picture with Beardy : I have this series (unfortunately, not original) and it's called Tolerant hero. A nice one, in which Sun Chien plays again ! It seems that he played in a lot of this kind of series. I tried to look for his filmography yesterday (outside of hkmdb or hkcinemagic), and it's a shame that he doesn't even have a wiki page !! There is a page for the Venoms, a whole page for Chaing Sheng and maybe other ones, but no page for Sun Chien !!

The two links are the same. The original link was long and I shortened it. The link is a thread about series in which their main themes weren't published into soundtracks. They have the series titles, the producers and some decision makers of the series, and the lyrics of the main themes.

He's alive, but it seems that he either restricted his FB or doesn't have one.

As for Nine dragon warriors and Worthy love, Drawn sword, the series A killing love has only 4 episodes, which could confirm that this series is really a direct-to-video one. I searched on google with the words " direct-to-video series ", and I only found what it meant and some exemples but...for Amrerican series or movies !!!
